First Responder Initial Course
The 40-hour First Responder Initial Course represents the first
component of the EMS system. The first responder is trained to provide
care for the sick or injured victims prior to the arrival of an ambulance. The
first responder is trained to assess and manage medical emergencies.
Successful completion of the course includes attendance, national standard
practical skills testing, and a written exam. Participants will also be trained in
Professional Rescuer CPR. Upon completion of the course, the participant’s
information will be submitted to the Mn EMSRB for certification. Each
participant is required to register and complete an on-line disclosure
statement that is available on the Mn EMSRB website to complete the
registration process. The Mn EMSRB is responsible for the issuance of the
certification that is valid for 2 years. The training sessions are typically 2
nights a week for 5 weeks. The fees include all material and testing fees.
First Responder Refresher Course:
The 16-hour First Responder Refresher Course is a review of the skills
and knowledge covered in the First Responder Initial Course. The course is
also used to introduce the latest in equipment, discuss current research or
issues of concern. Attendees must meet Mn EMSRB First Responder
refresher elgibility requirements to attend. The course includes Professional
Rescuer CPR recertification. Course fees include all material and testing
fees.
Scheduling Options:
One of the goals of MSR Inc is to provide scheduling flexibility. It is our
intention to provide options for organizations to accommodate the needs of
its members, along with helping training budgets go farther. We offer the
traditional refresher schedule of 2 nights a week for 2 weeks along with the
following plans that can be incorporated into your monthly training
schedule. All sessions are on a 2-year training cycle.
Extended Refresher Plans:
8/2 Plan: 8 sessions / 2 hours per session. Quarterly Training
6/3 Plan: 6 sessions / 3 hours per session.
4/4 Plan: 4 sessions / 4 hours per session.
Monthly 1-hour sessions for industrial responders.
